Cornelius Was Just Ranked The 3rd Best Lake Beach Town in America

With summer now in full swing, the personal-finance website WalletHub took a close look at 2019’s Best Beach Towns to Live in.

Out of the hundreds of popular beach towns in America, WalletHub found Charlotte’s suburb town of Cornelius to be the 3rd best lake beach town in the country.

To determine the most livable beachside communities, the website compared 192 cities across 62 key metrics. The data set ranges from housing costs to share of for-sale waterfront homes to quality of beach water.

Their study divides beach towns into two categories, those by the ocean and those by lakes. 3 Carolina towns made it on at least one of the top 10 lists, including North Myrtle Beach, SC as the 7th best Ocean Beach Town, Davidson, NC as the 7th best Lake Beach Town, and Cornelius, NC as the 3rd best Lake Beach Town in America; Cornelius and Davidson both scored exceptionally high in the ‘affordability’, ‘economy’, and ‘education and health rank’; Cornelius’ new title comes just 3 years after they opened Mecklenburg County’s first public beach in Ramsey Creek Park.

Spirit Airlines takes flight at Charlotte Douglas International Airport

Local travelers seeking no-frills, budget-friendly airfares have a new option: Spirit Airlines. On Thursday, the Florida-based discount carrier started flying at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, marking the occasion by giving away a trip to Florida and celebrating with a ribbon-cutting by airport and company executives.

Spirit will have one gate at CLT, located on Concourse A. Its daily flights will travel to and from Baltimore; Newark, New Jersey; and two Florida destinations — Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

At 6 a.m. on Thursday, the first Spirit flight took off from Charlotte, headed to Newark. John Kirby, the airline’s vice president of network planning, told me Spirit could eventually serve eight to 10 cities from Charlotte.

Population gains in Charlotte and across North Carolina have made the airline bullish on this part of the country, Kirby said.

The airline debuted in Raleigh last month and already had a presence in the Carolinas with service to and from Asheville, Greensboro and Myrtle Beach.

“With Charlotte starting today, we’ve added four destinations in North Carolina in less than a year,” he said. “So we’re seeing a lot of strong demand. The economy’s booming in these cities and we like what we’re seeing.”

GIGA Data Centers Opens Massive 165,800 Sq Ft Facility in Lake Norman

GIGA Data Centers, LLC (GIGA) today announced the company officially opened its 165,800 square foot CLT-1 Data Center in Mooresville, NC.

The new facility will give small to mid-sized companies access to high-performance computing capabilities, including advanced artificial intelligence (AI), real-time global finance calculations, and simulated healthcare applications.

According to CEO Jake Ring: “GIGA’s new facility is an efficiency milestone for the colocation industry that places world-class hosting and carrier-neutral services in an ideal location to offer a lower-priced option over more costly data center fees charged in other markets.”
The new facility leverages a highly energy-efficient modular design first used by the U.S. Department of Energy, representing the latest data center innovation to cost-effectively enable high-performance computing —a compute service typically only afforded by large corporations. This innovation is GIGA’s WindChill® Enclosure system which provides hot/cold aisle isolation and adiabatic cooling to lower data center OPEX and offer rack-power density at 4.1₵ per kWhr.

The company received $6.6 million in tax incentives to build the CLT-1 Data Center and they will be adding 25 full-time jobs with above average salaries to the region.
